Downfall is a two-player game for players aged 7 and older, first marketed by the Milton Bradley Company (now Hasbro) in 1970.
A strategy game of skill and cunning. Twist and turn the wheels to get your own coloured counters from the top to the bottom first. Featuring keys to block your opponent from turning the wheels and different size wheels for more advanced play.
The game consists of a vertical board with five slotted dials on each side. Each player starts with ten numbered tokens or discs at the top of the board. The goal is to move the discs down the board into a tray at the end by turning the slotted dials. Each player has an alternate turn in rotating the dials and cannot turn a dial that their opponent has just turned.
Since neither player can see the other's board, it is common to inadvertently advance the opponent's disc. The game rewards forward thinking and planning; players may try to "trap" their opponent into turning a dial that will advance their own disc, while trying to ensure that their own discs are not caught and dropped out of order.
The 1970s edition has recently given way to the latest version, renamed as New Downfall, marketed and manufactured by Hasbro. It retains the same flavor of the game including the original rules, but the packaging is more futuristic, with red and yellow board design.
